Here’s a quote from this week’s news. See? You are smart for owning a pre-paid wireless phone. You can laugh at all the other chumps.
Prepaid cellphone service costs anywhere from 50 percent to 75 percent less than postpaid service, PagePlus said. Because of the down economy, some analysts predict prepaid revenue growth of 14 percent this year compared to 4 percent for postpaid service.

I just got myslef a tracfone and wow what value for money. The bonus is that I am now in control of my fone bills and am not going to get a huge surprise at the end of the month. Dfinitely the way to go!
Husband and I have used TracFone and now Net10 for over 8 yrs. We chatted very little so minimal mins served well (60 min would last me 2 months.) Gave up the land line when I realized there were over $17.00 in fees & taxes added every month, not to mention services we hadn’t ordered that were always showing up (and I’ve been using computers since the early 80′s – I don’t “accidently” order stuff). With kids scattered to the 4 winds we now spend lots more time on the phone, but tracfone now has triple mins for life, which drops hubby’s cost to about 5cents/minute (with promo codes.) In our area, SE OK, we seem to have better coverage than anybody else’s carrier. Tracfones are cheap and we’ve upgraded a number of times – never had a problem with a phone. Phone customer support has been pretty good the few times we’ve needed (transfer a phone # to the new ph) – wait time is a bit long. Can’t say the same for the web site. Links frequently don’t work (usually the one you really need.) Just bought minutes – new design to web site – yea – maybe it’s improved. No such luck. Had to try 3 different links before one worked to get where I could purchase a card. Oh well. I can live with that. If you primarily need basic phone and maybe some texting a prepaid may be as perfect for you as it is for us. Do compare costs. With tracfone, spend a bit more and get a triple minutes for life model. WalMart is an easy place to compare costs of various prepaids. Do your research.
I understand why my highly stressed professional children need their smart phones, but I can’t understand why I observe so many persons adding $10 worth of gas to their old cars, but carrying $300 phones, with bills of $50 or $60 a month.
